Haliburton Off Road 200 km

Fall 2000

The scenery was quite magnificent. In the north it is classic Canadian Shield, featuring a mix of swamp, cedar forest, and granite bedrock. Slowly this gives way to hardwood forests, and flatter farmland towards Fenelon Falls.

The route was to take us about 95 Km south from Haliburton to Lindsay on a well-kept rail trail that averaged about 2 metres in width. Then by angling south-west on mostly unpaved roads, we would pick up bits and pieces of familiar routes south of Lake Scugog and Uxbridge, through Whitevale, to finish in Markham.

Apart from a few early morning dog-walkers, deer and grouse, we had the trail to ourselves.
